Youth rallies have always been a tremendous part of my summer, and traveling there was half the fun. The rally that took place in Colorado last summer was a new experience for my congregation. Typically, our youth group would pile in the big van. Instead we headed for the airport. In our travels, I specifically enjoyed getting to know the people on the trip that were much younger than me and seeing them live their faith through the way they carried themselves. Everyone that I came into contact with on the trip was very encouraging and personal. Activities that were planned and workshops I attended were a fun, relaxed, and interactive way to get to know new people and it gave me incredible hope to see how many brothers and sisters in Christ I had all across the country.

I learned that I’m not alone. Being a Christian teen has its quirks and challenges. It can leave us feeling down with the many types of adversity we face, but Christ carries us through. God uses different events in our lives to do some crazy things and his will is always accomplished. I learned a lot about people my age of different cultures and the struggles they had to face living out their faith in other countries. I gained a lot of perspective of my faith knowing how easy I have it as an American Christian teen. Those who share the same hope we have around the globe can be persecuted in ways we can’t begin to imagine. Hearing of the hardships of Christians in other countries taught me to take all the problems I face and put it in the hands of our Lord daily. Diving into God’s Word with a multitude of his people at the rally reminded me of how the things we tend to pursue in this life are a chasing after the wind and the only thing that life boils down to is Christ.

I grew up going to the grade school at Beautiful Savior. Seeing the younger people of the congregation that I attended the grade school with on the rally trip was extremely inspiring. I still am in awe when I see how quickly they have all grown up. The time I got to spend getting to know them was very enjoyable and I loved creating a relationship with them. It was also a delight to catch up with a lot of my old friends from church. Through devotions, travels, and all-around spending time together I feel like we grew closer as a family in the body of Christ and I wouldn’t trade the fellowship the youth rallies gave me for anything. It was a huge privilege to be able to attend the WELS youth rally in Colorado this past summer. The memories we made have left an immense impact on my faith that I know will carry on with me wherever God leads.
